The Next Gen Tutor

Above: I am using Figma to create a wireframe for the initial concept. I have place holders for forthcoming content, but I am still able to apply information architecture and organize where the content would be placed.

Overview

With over two decades of experience as a nurse and a Masters Degree in nursing education, Suzanna was prepared to start a new business as a professional tutor to help prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) exam required to become a registered nurse.

Suzanna was already promoting her business on social media, but needed a website to provide some basic information about her services as well as a way for nursing students to book a consultation with her. Here was my approach to meet her business needs:

Above: I pulled together a Style Guide that consisted of a palette that was inspired was Suzanna’s love for hiking and nature. I pursued a voice and tone that was clean, inviting, and grounded.

User-Friendly Interface

  • Navigation: Simple and intuitive navigation to enhance user experience.

  • Accessibility: Considerations for users with disabilities, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.

Business Requirements

  • Highlight Expertise: Suzanna was well versed in the make-up of the NCLEX exam, and has a Master’s Degree In Nursing Education.

  • Express Empathy: Taking the NCLEX exam is a stressful experience, and it was important to Suzanna that she project empathy and support for these nursing students.

  • Scheduling and Payment: A means for students to easily and intuitively schedule a 30 minute consultation. Indicate the cost of the consultation, and securely capture payment information.

Above: Designed a hi-fidelity prototype using Figma that incorporated all the business requirements, as well as the feedback from the stakeholder and user testing.

Voice and Tone

  • Style Guide: Develop a color palette based on Suzanna’s interest of the outdoors, and well as a positive, calm and supportive tone.

  • Content: Worked with Suzanna to deliver content that met the needs of a nursing student needing an NCLEX tutor.

Interactivity and Usability Testing

  • Schedule Consultation: The goal is to drive traffic to schedule a 30 minute consultation. We placed forms on two different pages to increase the likelihood of acquiring opportunities.

  • Ease of Scheduling: Making sure a user could easily use the calendar and understand the choice available to them to pick a date and time. This was at the suggestion and implementation of Suzanna and her developer.

Above: As part of the research, testing participants were asked qualitative questions about their thoughts in attaining and working with an NCLEX tutor.

Above: Added interactions between components and pages. Testing these interactions to ensure success.

Design Considerations

  • Mobile Responsiveness: Ensure the site is fully functional on various devices.

  • Photography: Utilize imagery that projected success and achievement.

  • Typography: Choose clear and legible fonts suitable for online reading.

  • Graphic Design: A flat design keeps reinforces the tone and voice.

Timeline and Deliverables

  • Week 1: Research and concept development, including user personas, site architecture, and user flows.

  • Week 2: Wireframe design and the establishment of content structure.

  • Week 3: Interface design and prototyping, incorporating feedback from test users.

  • Week 4: Final adjustments, user testing, and preparation for design handoff to developer.
